한국 현대미술 1세대인 남사 이준은 1919년 경남 남해에서 태어났다. 1938년 도일(度日), 일본 와카야마 상업고교에 진학했으며 1942년 태평양미술학교 서양화과를 졸업했다. 귀국 후 교사로 부임하여 마산상업고등학교, 숙명여자고등학교 등에서 학생들을 지도하였고 이후 다년간 이화여자대학교, 홍익대학교에서 강의하며 후학 양성에 힘썼다. 1953년 제2회 대한민국미술전람회에서 만추>로 대통령상을 받았고, 한국미술협회 회장, 서울올림픽 세계현대미술관 운영위원장 등 여러 단체의 주요직을 역임하며 한 평생을 미술가이자 교육자로 살았다. 이준 화백은 1950년대까지 구상 회화를 주로 다루었으나 1970년대 초부터 비(非)구상의 기하학적 패턴, 색면회화, 추상화로 점진적 변화를 거듭하며 끊임없이 새로운 시도를 보여주었다. 지난 2018년 경남도립미술관에서 개최한 ≪빛의 향연-이준≫ 전시는 이준 선생의 100세를 기념하는 상수 기념 전시로 기록되는데, 상수 기념 전시는 2012년 윤중식 선생, 2016년 김병기 선생에 이어 이준 화백이 세 번째이다. 2021년 102세의 나이로 타계했다.
Lee Joon, one of the founding members of Modeon Korean art was born in 1919 in Namhae, South Gyeongsang Province. He attended Wakayama Commercial High School in Japan in 1938 and graduated from the Pacific Academy of Fine Arts in 1942. After returning to Korea, he was appointed as a teacher and taught students at Masan Commercial High School and Sookmyung Girls' High School, and for many years, he taught at Ewha Womans University and Hongik University and worked hard to foster future students. In 1953, he received the Presidential Award for "Manchu" at the 2nd Korea Art Exhibition, and served as a major artist and educator for several organizations, including the chairman of the Korea Art Association and the chairman of the Seoul Olympic Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Artist Lee Joon mainly dealt with spherical painting until the 1950s, but since the early 1970s, he has shown continuous new attempts by gradually changing the geometric patterns, color-curving, and abstraction of non-spherical objects. The ≪Feel of Light-Lee Joon≫ exhibition held at the Gyeongnam Provincial Museum of Art in 2018 is recorded as an exhibition commemorating Lee Joon's 100th birthday, This special exhibition the third of such an event celebrating Korean artists from that era. Gyeongnam art Museum first recognized Yoon Joong-sik in 2012,next Kim Byung-ki in 2016 Now, Lee Joon who passed away last year 2021 at the age of 102, will share this honor and be secognized with a special exhibition of his contribution to our nation`s Artistic history.
