"2023" 검은토끼의 해 계묘년을 맞이하여 새해에 선보이는 SHAH GALLERY 전시는 자신만의 예술 활동에 있어 끊임없는 도전과 해석으로 예술성에 있어 하나의 장르를 구축해 나가는 예술인들의 작업으로 전시가 이루어진다.
작품들을 전시만 하는 공간이 아닌 작품과 공간, 관람객과 공간, 작가와 관람객이 모두가 소통하며 만들어가는 공간이라는 뜻을 가지고 기획된 프로젝트의,
첫 번째 파트로 김유정 작가의 < Infinite Expanse of Space> 무한한 공간이란 주제로 전시를 선보인다.

"저의 작업은 우주의 블랙홀/심해에 존재할지도 모르는 산호초와 같은 추정 불가능 한 것들에 대한 애정에서 시작이 됩니다.
그로 인하여,
우주 철학의 교집합처럼 아주 작거나 아주 거대해서 인간이 인지하지 못하는 것에 대하여 나의 시야가 무한으로 확대-축소된다면 보지 못할 것이 없다고 생각합니다."

작가는 우리나라에 항구도시인 부산에서 태어나 유년 시절을 보냈다.
유년 시절 눈앞에 마주하던 익숙한 풍경의 바닷가에 일을 하던 어부들은 삶이 고스란히 담긴 거친 손으로 세심하게 매만지던 어망을 보며 작업의 초창기 시절 영감을 얻은 작가는 '나일론'이라는 현대적인 물질의 산물과 전통적인 '공예`라는 매개를 자신만의 새로운 해석을 통하여 현재까지 유기적인 형태 작업을 구축해 나가는 반복적인 행위를 지속하고 있다.

바스케트리(Basketry) 자연소재와 케이블타이(Cabel-tie) 공업 소재를 시대적인 변화에 맞춰 작가의 해석으로 공예 예술 장르에 새로워진 다양성을 갖춘 조형화 라는 지속적인 작업방식을 고수하는 작가는, "전통예술에 대한 현대시각적조형의 재해석" 이라는 장르에 선구적으로 독보적인 커리어를 쌓아 왔다.
케이블타이(Cabel-tie) 라는 소재는 작가 스스로 발전시킨 '엮는다'라는 언어로 물질에 대한 이면을 비추어 준다.
어린 시절 실내 장식 업을 하시는 아버지의 생활 환경 속에서 케이블 타이는 작가의 놀이감이 되었다.
작은아이의 손가락의 움직임으로 케이블타이(Cabel-tie)에 교차되는 구멍을 통하여 자신만의 고리의 형태가 만들어 지는 과정들이 작가에게는 현재의 유년 시절에 경험한 ‘놀이’의 연장선상에 공예라는 ‘일'이 되어 있다.

이번 프로젝트의 선보이는 작품들은 대량적으로 생산되는 물질을 지속적인 시간과 기술로 탐구하여, 하나의 창작물로 전시 기간 중 SHAH GALLERY 공간을 통하여 만나 볼 수 있다.
SHAHGALLERY는 전통적인 예술의 다른 재해석 담고 있는 무한한 확장성을 지닌 김유정 작가의 앞으로의 작업 행보를 기대해 본다.

The "SHAH GALLERY" exhibition, which will be showcased this new year to mark the Year of the Black Rabbit, will be exhibited by artists who build a genre in their artistry with constant challenges and interpretations in their own artistic activities.
The project was designed with the meaning that it is not just a space for exhibiting works, where artists, visitors and writers can come together and experience a harmony of ideas and artwork. As the first part, the exhibition will be presented under the theme of Infinite Amount of Space by Kim Yoo-jung.

“My work begins with a love of unpredictable things like the black hole in the universe/the coral reef that might exist in the deep sea.
As a result, I don't think there's anything I can't see if my vision of what humans don't perceive is zoomed in to infinity, because it's so small or so huge, like an intersection of cosmological philosophy.”

The writer was born and spent her childhood in Busan, a port city in Korea. Fishermen, who worked on the beach were familiar sighy in front of her eyes when she was child. She saw the fishing net carefully smoothed with their rough hands, and was inspired by the early days of work. She continues to build organic forms through her own new interpretation of the products of modern materials such as nylon and traditional crafts.
The artist adheres to a traditional method of creation in sculpting basketry, but utilizes modern industrial material to bring life to the organic forms she has becom known for. She now a pioneering career in the genre of ‘reinterpretation of modern visual sculpture of traditional art'.
The material ‘Cable-tie’ reflects the side of matter in the language ‘winding’ developed by the artist herself. Cable ties became a playground for artist when she was a child in the living environment of their father, who was in the interior decoration business.
The process of creating one's own shape of a bridge through a hole intersecting a cable tie by the movement of a small child's finger has become a ‘work’ for the artist as an extension of the ‘play’ she experienced in her youth.

The works presented in this project can be seen through the SHAH GALLERY space during the exhibition period as a creation by exploring mass-produced materials with continuous time and technology.
SHAHGALLERY looks forward to the future work of Kim Yoo-jung, who has infinite expandability that contains other reinterpretation of traditional art.
